Forest service announces damage on Williams River Road and Island Campground

Great bird watching in area

The annual Christmas Bird Count in Pocahontas County, held December 29th, started off with wind at 20 – 25 mph, temperatures of 15 degrees and about 20 to 30 inches of snow. But hey that’s considerably warmer than last year.

Highland Scenic Highway is all ablaze this weekend with the buttery yellows of the beech trees already succumbing to the cold weather.  Now is peak!
