Locally made art makes great gift
Winter and Christmas are wonderful times here in Pocahontas County for many reasons. Blankets of snow, snowmobiling on the Highland Scenic Highway, and skiing at Snowshoe Mountain are only a few of them. If you like shopping though, the county has some big surprises.
Crafters and artisans abound in the region. I found several of them Friday night at the Opera House in Marlinton. Over 40 crafters were on hand displaying and selling their original art. It was fantastic. Black walnut jewelry boxes made from trees grown here in the county were there, as were ceramics which included useful items such as cups to fun items like platters, business card holders, and one of kind vases. The colors glistened while the artist explained the red color that drew me to the table in the first place was no longer on the market. Of course I bought it and am thinking of giving it me for a present.
If the idea of a gift made from local resources by locally people appeals to you then you still have time to visit the Pocahontas Artisan Coop in Green Bank WV. Visit them on the Web at http://www.artisancoop.net/
